Why do you need a chimney sweep? Chimney Cleaning is an important part of routine fireplace maintenance.
When wood is burned in a fireplace the smoke that is created containes flammable residue that is deposited on the interior of your flues, smoke shelf and smoke chamber. If not proberly removed
this build up can begin to build to very dangerous levels.
When creosote ignites it burns at about 2100 degrees F. When combined with vertical chain effect the heat
can reach upwards of 3000 degrees F. At this temperature it can easily set your home on fire, destroy your chimney, and literally melt your chimney cap and/or
flue tiles.
Chimney caps and flue liners are made most commonly from 18/10 stainless steel which has a melting point of 2,781 degrees F.
Depending on use,
a thorough cleaning should be performed every year to even twice a year in high use cases.
