Oil Furnace Service Seattle, Oil Furnace Cleaning Bellevue
FACT – Your oil furnace service company is NOT cleaning or inspecting your chimney! It is a very common misconception that your oil company checks every components of your oil furnace or oilboiler system. This is incorrect. Some companies may shovel out the base of the chimney and brush the interior connector pipes but the chimney is left untouched and not properly inspected. The national fire protection agency requires an annual inspection of ALL chimneys.
Oil fuel has a by-product of combustion called oil soot. It is mainly composed of unburnt carbon and sulfur. This oil soot accumulates on the interior walls of the chimney flue and at the base. If left uncleaned this oil soot mixes with condensation and moisture to form sulfuric acid. This acid will absorb into the masonry flue liners and cause deterioration and spalling (flaking) or the flue. A metal liner will also suffer corrosion because of the sulfuric acid as well. Once the liner is compromised the chimney will no longer be able to contain heat and/or flue gases which can create a fire and health hazard.
